Creating Guides in Sketchup – Don’t Destroy Your Keyboard!

Obviously I didn’t but I came pretty damn close… This is just a small ‘reminder’ post for me and possibly hordes of other Illustrator/Photoshop-turned-Sketchup users trying to create guides from the center of a circle.

To create guides in Sketchup, read this tutorial or just follow these steps:

  1. Click the Tape Measure tool or press the letter ‘T’.
  2. Don’t mess with your circle yet! First, move the cursor to a line that is parallel with the point that will be used to create the new guide. Make sure it says “On Edge” as it shows in the screenshot I’ve included.
  3. Click the mouse on the parallel line.
  4. Now move to the circle and find its center by ‘inference’ (hovering over the edge of the circle, then moving toward the center).
  5. Click the mouse again.

That only took two hours to figure out. One of the Sketchup help pages is completely unintelligible; I finally found this ‘note’ on the page I’ve included that explains it (f*&ck!!!):
