Just discovered this open-source CNC machine that relies on laser cut parts. The plans are free:

The router looks great, but it might be more difficult to scale it up further. Maybe I’m wrong about this. Also, the z-axis head looks awfully clunky. If you watch the Flickr video though, you will see how fast the long axis travel is. Impressive.

We are getting ready to release an improved, second generation of the DIYLILCNC design and instructions. We’re doing some fundraising right now through kickstarter to offset our R&D costs.
